Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul. In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll. I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. I love this poem because it is an extraordinary motivator to everyone who is going through whatever plight you may be going through - whether in your professional or personal career. Far too often we allow others to dictate our paths professionally, or we listen to other's advice as to the decisions we should make, forgetting that the Battle of Life is no one else's but ours. While the advice of others may be helpful, we must never forget that the decisions we make and the actions we take will affect in a direct way no one else but ourselves. Be prepared to fight the battle of your life knowing that it is you and only you who can be the captain of your soul. |
